Ear Sculpting-Elf Ears-Spock Ears- New trend in ear reshaping?
I have been doing reshaping of the ear since last 32 years, various type of Pinnaplasty, Otoplasty , ear lobe repair etc.
I came to know about the new trend in youngsters, ie reshaping their Pinna as Spock\’s ear (star treck fame). As an ENT plastic surgeon, I should be prepared to undertake any such “challenges” in my life time. I am told it is getting very popular in the west. The youngsters claim that it enhances the music listening experience after they reshape the ear and enhance the attractiveness of face. How bizarre!!!
As a surgeon, I understand the procedure as one cut a wedge of cartilage at the top and suture it giving a pointed shape. It can be done under a local anesthetic. It\’s simple and safe if done under ideal conditions. The sutures are removed after 7-10 days.
As an ENT plastic surgeon, I might be forced to do the “elf ear procedure” in the near future. God help me…
