After keeping few weeks in our balcony, the potted little olive plant was given to the Lourde Forane church, in Trivandrum and it was planted near the front entrance of the church. I nearly forgot about it, but my wife found where it was planted and she felt very happy to see it taking life.

The plant looked full of life, not depressed since it left all its siblings at home in Jerusalem. I wondered how it feels now; does it have any feelings at all? Has it forgotten all his parents in Gethsemane and other gardens in Jerusalem?

I believe the plants and trees have its Soul, a mind of its own inside .It may not have the spirit like we all have, the God given spirit, the part of Ruah. They have life, energy, they

need air, and water and good ground to live on, and sunlight.

Man is made of three things-spirit, soul and body. Animals have Soul and body, the spirit makes us different from the animals and plants. The spirit is the breath of life, the part that keeps the body alive – the soul is the person’s personality, his psyche, and it is him or her, the part that is eternally lost or eternally saved.

Having said all that, let our little olive tree grow and fruitful in an alien soil far away from its place of origin. May God bless the Olive from Jerusalem, If God wills; my eyes can see the fruits of this wonderful gift, my friend Mercy brought it from Jerusalem. Like the Good News spread by St.Thomas, this little one may grow to be a witness of Jesus in Gods Own country, Kerala in south India. If not, I pray that my children and their children will remember the story of the “spiritual tree” from the Holy Land.
