Gross nasal septal deviation can cause external deformity of the nasal pyramid. This can be corrected by septoplasty and can avoid an Rhinoplasty if done properly. The excess cartilage removed is re implanted as a cartilage bank in case the patient needs future surgery. This technique prevent any saddling.Caudal deviation is very difficult to correct unless one remove the cartilage and re implant it after scoring it.
Procedure Done:
A 22 year old girl , about to get married in 2-3 months , having external nasal deformity due to a bad septal deviation, septoplasty corrects her nasal deformity without doing a Rhinoplasty.Doing an external open rhinoplasty was suggested but since the wedding is near, i discouraged her. After any rhinoplasty there will be residual swelling for at least 3-6 months.
After the procedure, the anesthetist extubate and awaken the patient from GA.
General anesthesia was administered by Dr Thomas, the Senior Anesthetist in Jubilee Hospital, Trivandrum, South India.
