The nasal septum is the wall that separates the two nasal passages. A deviated septum and nasal tip occurs when the cartilage or bones are crooked. Having a deviated septum can make breathing difficult.
Septoplasty is performed to correct breathing problem primarily, but it can correct the nasal pyramid deformity to a certain extent.
Septoplasty can correct for nasal deviation, depending on how deviated his nose is from the outside. If straightening the septum internally does not correct the external deviation, a Rhinoplasty operation must be performed. This can be done at the same time as Septoplasty. It can change how the columella appears (strip of skin between the nostrils) if the end of the septum is obviously deviated. This can remove a bulge or bump that can appear inside one of the nostrils and make a twisted columella more straight.
(The video clip above shows a Septoplasty is being performed under local anesthesia in Jubilee Hospital Trivandrum, South India. The patient had external nasal deformity due to dislocated septum, this was corrected by doing a septoplasty).
