After the Rhinoplasty surgery is over, the patient is transferred to post operative surgical high dependency ward where the nurses take great care in checking the vital signs.
Early post- op care after Rhinoplasty includes cold compresses or ice on the face fir the first few hours. Head elevation is important to minimize swelling. A dressing under the nostrils to catch blood stains also is helpful. Ice will decrease the amount of swelling and potential scar build up.
After Rhinoplasty surgery your nose will be packed with soft merocel nasal packing. There will be soft silastic splints along each side of your septum . Splints reinforce the newly shaped cartilage. You may notice that tears run down your cheeks. This is due to swelling and will subside during the first week following rhinoplasty surgery.
The nasal packing will prevent breathing through your nose so you will have to breathe through your mouth. Your mouth will become very dry. Please drink as much fluid as you can which will help you from becoming dehydrated.
The patient will be taken to their own room once they are fully awake and allowed to eat and drink.
