Septoplasty is the preferred surgical treatment to correct a deviated septum. This procedure is not generally performed on minors, because the cartilaginous septum grows until around age 15 or puberty.
Septal surgery is not encouraged before puberty as the surgery can affect growth centers of septum and anterior nasal spine of nasal septum. If septoplasty is done in children it can affect the growth of the mid face. In severe nasal obstruction, limited cautious septoplasty can be done, in desperado.
