Sinus Ostia Dilatation: Sinuplasty using Foleys Catheter

Balloon sinus dilation using a Foley\’s catheter is performed to open and dilate obstructed sinus ostia in patients suffering from sinusitis.

Much like angioplasty is used to open coronary arteries and avoid bypass graft surgery, sinus ostium dilatation offers patients with chronic sinusitis the possibility of complete preservation and restoration of the native sinus anatomy.

I have tried this procedure solely for dilation of obstructed maxillary sinus ostia, not in frontal sinus.

In a charity mission hospital like Jubilee Hospital in Trivandrum, India, this inexpensive procedure is helping poor patients who cannot afford to buy costly balloon sinuplasty set.
