First God made heaven & earth The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. (Genesis 1:1-2)
The Hebrew word behind spirit of God is ruach, Elohim. and it means “air in motion.” It is the same word for “breath.” It also means “life.” By resemblance to breath and air in motion, it means “spirit.” All life springs from Spirit.
Back to creation, “the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life”- Genesis 2:6-7
It\’s from the breath of God that we actually get our life. And so now you get the linkage of how we were created. How we were created in the image of God is because of our breath. The same thing happens when we are born of the Spirit.
In the Gospel of John, where He is giving to His disciples the Holy Spirit, just as God breathed on Adam and gave him the breath of life, Jesus breathed on His disciples. “‘Peace to you! As the Father sent me, I also send you.’ And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit'” (John 20:21-22,).
Jesus didn\’t just breathe on the disciples 2,000 years ago. Every time we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, it is God\’s breath on us. Just imagine that. It is not a one-time thing.
Being born of the spirit
A person\’s first birth, the physical birth, happens when a mother\’s waters break. The Bible calls this “being born of water”. When a person has their birth of the Spirit, this is called “being born of the Spirit”. Christ said that we have to have both the physical birth and the spiritual birth, to enter the Kingdom of God:
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5)
When the God given spirit reactivated-born again-, the spirit of God changes the database of the genes and a transformation in the personality takes place. We are cleansed, nourished and enlightened.
Christ says that if the spirit of God is awakened in a person, then they are truly His disciples, and that these persons will know the Truth, which will spiritually liberate them.
